School of Fine Arts and firsts steps as an artist (1951-1959)

 

  • She prepares the challenging entrance exam in the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. [San Fernando School of Fine Arts].
  • She starts her studies at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
  • Her family moves to an apartment in Avenida de Bruselas, in one of the new districts of Madrid: Parque de las Avenidas.

    In February, on the occasion of mid-career, the Fine Arts students celebrate an original exhibition under the Plaza Mayor’s Plaza Mayor porticoes in Madrid. They present, show and comment on their work to onlookers. Such number of artists in such a popular and busy place attracts the press of the time’s attention, and is even reflected in the Mingote’s comic strip in the newspaper ABC.
  • She finishes her studies and earns the drawing teacher’s degree.

    Pilar spends the summer at her family’s house in Úbeda. There, she works on the series of oil-painting landscapes which she will make known on her first solo exhibition, at the end of that summer, in that same town. In total, twenty-one works are exhibited. Portrait painting is another genre she works on, following the teachings of her school.
